Fall time is usually the best time to plant trees. Most trees are in their dormant stage & planting them when the weather is cool, not yet freezing will allow the tree time to settle in to their new environment. Make sure to water them good after planting & then at least 1-2 times a week (unless it rains). They don't need any fertilizer during the fall & winter months because that will only promote new growth & chances are the tree will die & not come back. A sufficient amount of mulch, about 4-6" (inches) will also help protect from the winter elements & keep the dirt moist around the roots. Just make sure to keep the mulch away from the bark of the tree at least 3-4" (inches).

Right now before the ground freezing if you live in the norheast! Don't plant the tree too far down in the ground and water it really well for the first week. I know it sound crazy, but a tree will not experience as much stress if planted in the fall versus being planted in the spring. I have planted many in the spring also, but fall is best. Good Luck

Depends whether the trees are deciduous or evergreen. Evergreen trees are best planted in spring. This gives them a chance to put roots out before winter and prevent them from drying out as the ground freezes. With deciduous trees it depends whether they are bare rooted (no soil around the roots) or pot grown. Bare rooted trees should be planted in late autumn when they become dormant, but pot grown trees can be planted at any time of the year providing the ground is not frozen. Remember not to let the ground dry out for any type you plant.

In general, the best time for planting is during the fall and early winter months. During this time the trees are dormant or resting and the weather is cool and moist, which reduces the chance for water and temperature stresses.

Almost any time is ok to plant trees. One of the first things to concider is where and how much sun. The more important thing is to acclimate the trees.
try them in movable pots to see where the tree(s) like it and plant there.
