Yes, absolutely, it is just a form of reverse discrimination.

Absolutely, it creates a discriminatory double standard.

First let me start by saying that there is no job or task that a minority person can't do just as well as a non-minority.

When a minority person is given preferential treatment and entitlement to programs that are restricted by race, that is racial discrimination period.

For example, if you check the required SAT scores for entry into some of our finer universities, minorities can score 250 points below that required for a non-minority. This is not treating people equally, this is a double standard promoting mediocrity.

Furthermore, all governmental projects must have minority participation and they must get at least 10% of the work and get paid as if they received 15% of the work. In the situation that there is only one minority owned contractor in the area, and the quality of that particular contractor's work is consistently sub-standard you still have no choice but to use them, instead of hiring a competent contractor the taxpayer is forced to pay 150% of the price a non-minority contractor can charge.

If this was a non-minority contractor they would rightfully been driven out of business for their consistent sub-standard work.

This is not setting a level playing field, this is providing a way to perpetuate poor work practices.

No.

Statistics show that more minorities are getting jobs and college education since Affirmative Action has started so that shows who were discriminated against.

Everybody is saying yes like If it weren't for Affirmative Action, minorities would still get as many jobs as they do now. That's a complete lie.

It really sucks that we need Affirmative Action to be accepted into some of these places, but it's working well enough for us minorities to get in the same equal positions.

I know some people are mad because they were turned down for being white or male. But you still have the majority in this country, whether you accept it or not. The stats show the proof of that, and I believe that it's not a "crutch". If you're not one to discriminate then it would be hard to see it still exist.

But when you are on the receiving end of this discrimination you'd see exactly how much it is needed.

So my answer is No

It should be banned, its anti capitalism.

Lets say you own a business. Isn't it your right to hire who ever you want? And as a consumer isn't it right to shop anywhere I want?

Say you are a racist and only hire a certain race. First you limited your choices, so you won't get the best of the best. So basically your service and profit will fall because you don't have the best working for you.
Second say you only hire one race. Other people will see what is happening and not want to spend their money at your store, therefore your profits go down.
Third say the government tells you who to hire, which they are. Now you might have to pass up a great working to get a middle of the road working to meet some status quo.
In the long run it doesn't make sense. Let the racist or prejudice people hire who they want. They will see down the road it doesn't pay off

Affirmative Action, will one day be nothing more than a history lesson of the country's inapt ability to view individuals solely based upon talent and skill. However; as long as other barriers such as: White Privilege, Cronyism, Nepotism, Bribery, and non-equal opportunity to social development is eliminated; Affirmative Action will always and should continue to be part of the equation to balance out that which is antiquated behavior, stemming from prejudice.

Affirmative action is no longer about equal opportunity, it is about racial & sex quotas and double standards - a betrayal of what is was intended to be.

It should outrage everybody that our government institutions have different standards for differently pigmented people. It was wrong during segregation in the South, it is wrong now.

Another issue is that when students are allowed into universities and schools with lower academic achievement than their peers, they have a greater failure rate than if they would have been placed in with students of like achievement. So, is it better to have flunked out of Univ. or Michigan, or to have graduated from Central Michigan U? Ponder that tidbit.

Then there are the government set-asides for minority and women owned businesses. This is usually because these businesses cannot compete with other businesses (i.e. they cost more), so we, the taxpayer, get to line their pockets at a higher cost than if we had a 100% competitive government bidding process.

Then, in addition, there are other things, like color shenanigans in police and fire department promotion scores. Nothing like assuaging liberal white guilt on the backs of policemen and firemen, eh?

Then there are things (like here in MI) where the state funds stuff to promote, say, girls going into scientific fields. When you look at the facts, however, with girls being over 50% of university students, and the fact that nobody is preventing them from entering scientific fields, you have to wonder why we are spending money trying to force more girls into science.

So, I have a lot of issues with all the racial and sex double standards. I have a big problem with being labelled as 'the problem' and having different standards simply because I'm a white, Christian, heterosexual man. This should not happen in a Constitutional America.

Yes. My husband belongs to an ethnic minority and HATES Affirmative Action. It makes him feel emasculated to know that he has been hired (or interviewed) just to satisfy a race quota imposed on the company by our government. He feels that everywhere he goes, he has the stigma of being hired because of his skin and not because of his skills and education.

Affirmative action in its self is not a bad thing. It gives the opportunity to minority owned business and companies to "bid" for a job.

Most people have never read the implications of Affirmative Action so they just think its reverse discrimination.

Its a sticky subject, but until there is equality of opportunity in this country it should remain.

Its all about equality of opportunity.

ps. Quotas are racist and wrong. There is a difference.

Yes, it is unfair that someone can get a job based on the color of there skin rather than there qualifications. I also dont want to hear anything about it being payback. I have done nothing to them and they were not alive when other people were treating them unfairly.

Yes, it should be banned. It helps commit the injustice it claims to prevent. Or maybe we should just change people's salaries so that the greater minority gets paid more? That's fair, huh?

When the time comes that people are hired on talent and not because of factors they have no control over, affirmative action will no longer be needed
