I don't like to tip b'coz it will encourage them 2 wait upon d tips after serving. It also encouraged greed in d heart.

It is also quite messy where some countries encourage tips and some discourage tips. Foreigner might not know how much 2 tips.

The best is they get well paid every month besides waiting 4 tips and every country has a stand on no tipping. Everyone will be happy and people who serve in this line will not b discourage when no tipping and no complain and no comparison. I believe if they get good regular pay will b happier while waiting to b tips.

That sucks. Really. Even if you gave the waiter/waitress $3..what is that to you? It will be gone and forgotten before you know it.
Here's the deal. Servers make minimum wage (some states they make even less...in NC they make $2/hr!!!) and the reason restaurant's are able to get away with that is because they assume we are going to tip them. If fact, the government assumes the same thing....servers get taxed on a percentage of the meal whether you tip or not...so by you not tipping them, you are essentially making them pay for a portion of your meal. It is known that you tip at sit-down restaurants, so if you refuse to do so, perhaps you should refrain from going. The only point you are proving by not tipping is that you are being an a$$. Maybe you should re-think you policy.

flip your way of thinking. it is part of your dining experience. you personal revolt does nothing to proof a point to a restaurant. It only hurts the wait staff who work incredibly hard. I worked in the field for 8 years. It is very hard on the body.

If a waiter/tress is lousy I either don't tip or leave only a token or better yet I talk to management because maybe that person is having personal issues. But if a waiter/tress provides you with a good dining service/experience they deserve to be paid for the attentive service.

If you want to change the policy of the waitstaff not being paid enough by the restaurant then punishing the waitstaff is not the place to start. It proofs nothing and changes nothing.

Unfortunately waiters and waitresses don't even get paid minimum wage. I tip according to the service I receive. Some of the people are putting themselves through school. they are single parents - they have to survive also. The service would absolutely be horrendous for me not to tip something. Just always remember it's not easy work! Dealing with the public everyday can be a real head ache!

Servers are not paid much...management expects that they will get tips, so they don't pay them much. Twenty percent is a minimum that you should tip, and you should consider that the actual cost of the dining experience. People are not asked to choose to sit down and get served: they could eat at home or visit a take out joint. If you go to a restaurant, you should pay for the food and for the service.

If you can't afford to tip, then don't eat out. It's easy. Servers (here in MA) make less than $3 an hour. Almost their entire profit is dependent on people who eat there. It's really discouraging to serve people like you, because no matter what you do or how good of a waitress you are, they'll still insult you by not leaving you anything.

And anyone to brings up the "foreign countries don't tip" should know that it's because either the tip is already included in the receipt, or the servers get paid their fair share.

There's a reason we tip in the US.

As a side question, how many don't tip for counter service like Starbucks? Serving food and waiting on customers is one thing... but why the hell is there a tip-cup at Starbucks? Why should they get an extra dollar just because they handed me a cup of coffee?

I tip, regardless if the service is good or bad. I just tip well if the service is good and the minimum if the service is not good. This person is working for less than minimum wage, and a lot of the problems with orders are because of the kitchen-and it is not the waitor/waitress' fault. I agree with the idea that you should stick to McDonalds or maybe even Hardees, that seems to be more of your speed.

No. Waiters/wairtresses make less than minimum wage and anyone that has ever been a waiter/waitress knows the hard work involved. They have to put up with many different attitudes with a smile no matter what they are feeling like. Now if I get lousy service or lousy attitude that's different.

The servers live on tips. My sister in law worked at Denny's making $2.85 hour and when she got her W-2 at the end of the year, they had automatically figured 15% of her orders for tips and she had to pay tax on that! Then when a cheapskate like you comes along it sucks!

By not tipping, would be the same as you not getting paid for your job! How would you feel? Not too happy I bet! When a waitress, or waiter is hired, it is an unsaid thing, that "TIPS" will be part of their INCOME. That is why they also have to report it to the IRS. Can I explain any better than that?
