Really this can be summed up into a few statements:
1) The president is the only office which has an imposed term limit
2)The incumbency of the Congress festers greed and corruption
3) the Judicial Branch is a life long term once appointed
By setting term limits for all sectors of Government on all levels from the Federal, to Local. You impose action within the various branches while inducing more concise law making.
being and elected official should not be a career it should be an "honor"
2 terms max on house and senate. And once you run for one and run the tour. you cant switch to other side
Judicial branch one 10 year term. And they are elected by the people from the federal supreme court all the way down to the local appeals court.
Incumbency is the seed that allows for the corruption to grow

I think it is because both Democrats and Republicans have found that they can get people to vote for them for the wrong reasons. To give you an example of this, I was that a restaurant the other day and speaking to a waitress I found that she had voted for George Bush because she didn't like one single comment that had been made by John Kerry's wife. Now her husband is unemployed and I kind of wonder if she doesn't wish she had voted for Kerry now? There are many other examples of this type of thinking, people should look at how the politicians vote on the various issues they care about and forget personalities.

I try to echo your statements in all my answers. It's really not the political parties that are the problem, it's us!
When we as a nation finally figure out that career politicians are not the best choice we will start to see a change. When we begin to vote for common sense not the politically correct person we will see new ideas based on serving the people and not the ideology.
Meanwhile, we continue to fall into the trap of listening to the talking heads and politicos who perpetually tell us who to vote for and why.
When we have a prospective leader that has common sense value, that person will be in favor of understandable single item propositions (plain english explanations) and term limits for all electorates, I'll be at the pole early.

Since when have they ever cared about the people? It's all about power and getting it and keeping it, pure and simple. The only reason why any politicians do anything to help people is so they can win support from other politicians and other people in power who can help them and to win votes in the next election. It's always been like that, and unfortunately, it always will be.

you are right on the money!Politics is no longer about directing America's paths and policies. It's about power and corruption. What the citizens of America actually want is only a factor when it's re-election time. For all it's problems, I feel it's still the best in the world, but at the same time it's very disappointing.

The American government has become a High School popularity contest. I think we should just scrap it, live in chaos for a year, then start over. It seems like the best idea so far!

Bush & the Republicans got me a tax cut, just like they did every working person in this country.
When I get more money on my paycheck, I consider that as caring for me.
Thank you Bush.
Thank you Republicans, for caring about us working people.

The question presumes that they once did care about the people. I believe that parties have always been about power, so until you prove the assumption you base the question upon, your question has no answer.

They hate each other more than they love their country and are obsessed with the accumulation of power.
