You probably won't have any warning and it is normal for you to be worried about when it will come for the first time. The first time it will be just a small amount. Probably just enough for you to see a spot of blood on your panties when you go to the bathroom. If you are worried that it will come at a sleepover or during school then get prepared now and carry a couple of mini pads or a panty liner in your backpack or your purse. You can hide them in one of the inside zipper pockets. If you don't have anyone to take you to buy them or you are embarrassed you can usually find them in any public restroom in a machine on the wall for .25 cents. Just wait until no one else is in there and buy a couple.

Just remember - We ALL have been where you are. I am 40 years old and I still remember being worried like you are! I started when I was 13 in 7th grade. I came home from school, went in to pee and there it was! I never even felt it!

Good Luck! Hope this helped, sweetie.

No you will not know. It will just come. Girls are different, their bodies act different. For me, I started on my 13th birthday! Isn't that weird? I felt no cramps or pains for the first few years after starting. Later I had bad cramps, but now as an older woman, I don't cramp, and usually have back pain.
When I was about 14, I could feel a draining down there, so I would check, and many times it was because I had started my period. What you need to do, if you start your period go to the bathroom, and roll up some toilet tissue, and put it between your legs. This will sop up the blood okay? Right away, talk to the adult present, your mom, or a friends mother, DO NOT be embarrassed! This is a normal, natural part of a woman's life. It means you are growing up!
I am proud of your question, you are so mature already by having the strength to ask it.
The adult at your sleep-over, or your mother will provide you with pads to put so the blood will go into it.
Don't worry, Honey, you will become a woman, and that's something to celebrate!

The first time you probaly won't even feel it, and not alot will come out any way so don't fret.
You may feel slight cramps (you will when you get older and they become more regular)
Clear gooey stuff will star tcoming out a while before you start. Most women start on average age 12 but you can start as late as 16 or early as 10
Just don'tstress out about it and If youre worried abuot starting at a bad place just carry pads with you for a while when you think your going to star soon and your problems should be avoided.
Good Luck

I can't really remember what it was like to start my first period? It was such a long time ago, (not that long, but seems like a life time).

If I remember correctly, a couple of days before your first period you usually have minor cramps and serious bloating discomfort.
And you just don't feel right, also serious mood swings.
Its different for each women, but the results are usually the same.

What you should do for now, is to not worry to much about it. Talk to your mom about what she went through or someone close to you.
Also the next time you get a check up, ask your doctor for advise on this matter. Your doctor can tell when your getting close to having your first period.

Welcome to the wonderful world of being a fertile woman (soon). There is no hard and fast rule for this, you may feel it, you may not (my first one started when I was playing volleyball....wearing white shorts!) Since it's your first time, you may feel "off", but not know what it is signalling. Don't believe all that stuff they hand you about how swell it is to have this happen to you...it is a drag. If it happens at a bad time, it does, and if it happens at a slumber party, some of your friends will probably have already been through it. You ask your hostess for a pad. Do you wear panty liners? If you are close in age to the onset of menses, you may want to consider this. It will give you a bit of protection since your first flow may be small anyway. Good luck.

And if you haven't talk to your Mom or another woman about this, and what it's like, and what it means to be able to get pregnant, you should.

girl, be happy. I got mine when i was 14 and now I cant wait for menopause just for it to go away. I think that every girl is different, but you will usually be extremely emotional, where everything makes you mad, and everything will make you cry, and then you will get cramps, sort of feels like bad gas cramps in your abdomen. Since you never had, it usually is really short at first - maybe 2 to 3 days. Just carry a pad with you in your purse at all time, zip it up in the side compartment just in case.

You may feel some slight cramping or pressure in your abdomen up to a few days before. IYou may have a little headache or backache. You may have tender breasts.

It will likely be only a little spotting the first time you have your period. If you are very concerned, make sure that you keep a mini pad or panty liner with you in your purse.

I remember when my period first made an appearance. I was at school- in the 5th grade. I had just made it there, and was talking to my friends. I felt like I had squirted a bit of pee in my panties. I went to the restroom and peed blood. I didn't feel it coming until it actually came. Now, the next period was different. I had cramps, throwing up and diarrhea. So I knew it was on its way. Now, I take birth control to minimize the cramps and sickness, plus, its on a schedule, so I know when it will arrive. I suggest taking pads, tampons and panty liners with you at all times like I did. We had actually learned about it in school earlier that year, so I wanted to be prepared. Keep them in your purse or backpack. Just in case it does come, you'll be ready for it!

You probably get a slight strange feeling in your tummy a day or two before it starts but even if you don't your first one is usually really light so you shouldn't leak or anything.
Make sure you carry a pad with you at all times or wear a pantyliner or small pad if youre at a sleepover or anything.

The warning signs may be so mild you may not realize what is happening. If you are super worried about it start wearing a pantiliner on a daily basis. Also, carrry around a pad or two wherever you go.
