I am 25 years old and am in a bit of a slump.
I am wanting to test new waters
I have always wanted to get in to catalog modeling but I dont know where to start. I have done local commercials in the past but never made any real money from it. Does anyone know how I would even begin to try catalog modeling? I live in midwest about 3 hours from Dallas, TX.
Also there is no good modeling agencies where I live.

First, you need to put together a portfolio of photographs showing you doing the sort of modeling that you want to do. Work with a local photographer to do these shots -- you will have to pay for them, but paying a pro for good work is a smart thing to do. Each picture should have your contact information on it, if only a Yahoo mail address.

Then plan on taking a trip or two to the places where these catalogs are put together, such as New York and Chicago. Make a list of modeling agencies in these towns and visit them with your portfolio. Be prepared to hand out copies of your shots. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so call them back often. If you get a gig, show up on time, in a good mood and in good shape. No one will hire you if you're always grumpy and late.

The modeling business is hard to break into at a level where you can earn a living at it. The world is filled with people who would love to earn a living wearing nice clothes and having their picture taken. You would be wise to plan for a career outside of modeling if the modeling gig doesn't work out for you. Cindy Crawford studied engineering in college, so some of the best models have a fallback plan.

Is modeling your only goal position. Often times attractive people are considered to have an advantage in sales or management jobs because other people are drawn to them and will follow their advise. I can make some suggestions for a position with an International company that is based in the Dallas area that can pay some extraordinary incomes to the right person. What sort of training, experience, and education do you have. Are you willing to train for a high paying career outside of modeling? Let me know. Bruce at boatclub@go.com
