Contact your county soil and water conservation district (SWCD), they are in the phone book under Government. There might be a cost share program to help with seeding/planting. Good Luck!

You do not say where you are located, but a perennial wild flower would be good. You should see if the lumber company can do it for you at a reduced cost. They have access to discount bulk supply of different types of seeds and shrubs. Good Luck!

You should have made that part of the bargain with the lumber company.
Plant it in prarie, I suppose. Contact the local county extension or technical college.

Must you clear-cut? It would be so much better if your company could selectively cut that acreage. The existing trees are the best possible erosion control, especially where it's hilly. Clearcutting will leave you with torn-up soil, unsightly stumps and runoff. Nothing you can plant will replace what's already there in terms of erosion control. Please reconsider your plans.

Check with local Department of Transportation for seed mixes they use for State Highways. Also look for local wildflowers mixes and use those.

that sounds awesome, maybe your county cooperative extension could help with preventing erosion question, but wouldn't fields of decorative grasses and wildflowers look great!?and imagine the butterflies they would attract, and hummingbirds too.it would probably restore some of the ecosystem that will be destroyed when you remove the trees
