In time of war, no member of the US military will pay income tax. The burden from these citizens will be distributed among the remaining citizens of the US by way of a tax increase. The net tax will remain the same, it will just cost each non-service American more. In other words, you can support our troops and our wars with your pocketbooks, instead of with a little magnetic ribbon.
What d'ya think?

I don't think we need a constitutional amendment for that. Also, I think soldier's combat pay is already untaxed. Also, I think it's pretty clear that our current management would much rather plunge the country into irretrievable debt then equitably distribute the tax burden - or do anything that might upset their true constituency (the top .001% of earners).

Not a big fan of jingoism, eh? What are you, a Liberal?
Take it as a compliment, then.
I would amend your amendment to have it apply only to those in active duty, then upon their return, have a fund set up to help them re-integrate back into civilian life (school vouchers for higher education, job training, childcare, etc).
Businesses would be required to give former military priority hiring at competitive salaries.
Good post.

I think they shouldn't pay income anyway in the military but the fact that you think there is a "cost" to "pass off on the other taxpayers" shows that you don't understand taxation economics.

hello! I'm a huge supporter of our millitary but I live next door to a base and not only do they make more money than I do but they also get a housing allowance and discounted groceries and things. I don't get that, how about giving me a tax break? Now don't get me wrong I think they deserve those things for risking their lives everyday for my freedom. But lets give tax breaks where they are needed for once.

I believe this is too simple. For example, what if their spouse works? What if they have inherited money? I agree that military families should receive some special dispensation, especially during war time, but this is too simplistic.
