I would like to find out if someone drowned in an apartment in San Diego between 1940 and 1986. How would I research these records?

I would like to know because the apartment we rented had a ghost and a friend said the ghost was a boy who drowned in the bathtub and the apartments were built in 1940 and we lived there in 1986 so it had to have happened between those times.

Why would u want to know that? Is your bathtube haunted? Weird. Maybe there is some sort of public records that you can look into at the court house or something.
