We have a policy in our house to not open the door on 31 Oct. Close the blinds, switch off the lights in the front rooms and retreat to a back room for the evening. Works wonders!

The most holiday? What?

It's demanding goods by threatening, would we let gangsters run a protection racket around us? It's not sending a good message to instruct a child to go to a stranger's house, knock on their door, threaten them and if they don't give you what you want you can damage something of theirs.

Mind you it would suit the American way of life I suppose

Oh, I wish!
Last year some teenage bullies came to the door with just masks on. As I did not want to antagonise them, I gave them ten pence each. To reward me they scratched the length of my car as they considered 70 pence between the seven of them was not enough.
Heavens knows what they would have done if I had told them "This is not America". Set it on fire?

Having just left B&Q last night I got trickortreated and offered them a big tin of paint. They all said no ta, but one wee boy said "Ok, that'd be great. My dad's a joiner and a tin of paint will always come in handy." He was about 10. Bless.

And no, I didn't relinquish said tin of paint.

personally I would be bloody worried if my kids when knocking at doors in the dark...you don't know who is out there....many a pervert......

don't wish to sound a killjoy...I'd rather have a party for the kids and their parents then everyones having a good time....no old folks getting bothered...and all the kids safe.
