Get the little decorative mini-squash and pumpkins or different varieties of apples from most grocery stores. A variety of colors and shapes is best. Use one at each table setting as a placecard. Either insert a pretty placecard in a slit cut in the stem, or carve their first name in the side of each one. Make sure they will not wobble by slicing a flat spot on the bottom if necessary.

Then for a centerpiece, place several more decorative squash in or on something pretty, (table runner or pretty platter/bowl maybe) and cut candle holes in some of them. Insert little unscented tealightes with metal cups into the holes, and they will warm the squash and send a pumpkin or apple scent all over the room! To be more formal, you could use tall candles instead, but make sure the squash won't wobble, and the candles are very straight so they don't drip everywhere.

I make turkeys out of pine cones. You lay them on their sides, cut out paper feathers and glue them to the back (larger end) of the pinecone, and then make a head out of construction paper and glue it on the front end. To make it look nice, sometimes, I glue it to a paper doilie with some fall leaves on top of the doilie. Everyone loves these! To upgrade, I go to a thrift store and purchase a dessert plate and glue it on the plate with a votive candle on the side of the plate. Cute, but much more expensive.

When I worked at a daycare center, we used to cut out leaves out of constuction paper of fall colors (red, orange, brown, green) and glue around the edges and have the children sprinkle glitter on them. We used the color glitter of the leave....red glitter for red leave..green for greet etc.

Well....we put their names on them b/f the glue and used it for their cubbies. that way they look cute, but the kids can contribute too.
