I have a 2001 BMW 325i. I have replaced the left headlight bulb 3 times in the last 9 months. I have been replacing the bulb with Sylvania Silverstar bulbs and have been very careful not to get any oils on the bulb. However, it continues to go out while the right is still going strong. The weather seals seem intact and when I pull the bulb it is in good condition , just the filament is blown. Anyone know what would be causing this?

Anybody who said electrical short is just using words they heard somewhere. Shorts don't hurt bulbs. The socket being dirty or corroded can cause the bulb to get too hot. Vibration from the assembly being loose can make for a pretty short life too. And Sylvania makes some of the cheapest junk on the market.

I had the same problem w/ my 2000 legacy. It is the headlights. Go to sylvanias website the silverstars have a pitiful life compared to regular bulbs. I changed back to regular bulbs and have had no problem for a year or so now. If you like the look of hid lights consider a hid convesion kit (about $300) it will probably save you money in the long run. I have a friend with over 2 yrs of use on his and they are on all the time due to drl's. Hope this helps!

It sounds like you have a electrical short somewhere near the headlight assembly. I would check all the wiring and connections to see if any of them are touching something it is not suppose too. Also make sure you have the right bulb but i don't think that is the problem. Really check the socket where the bulb goes, your problem might be there. Good luck.

Get your self a handbook, and do the exams on the voltage regulator / rectifier and the alternator. Your description fits what got here approximately once I had a undesirable regulator. intense voltage reasons the bulb to burn very vivid and burn out.

Seeing that it is the cars left light that keeps going out, your car is telling you to vote Republican. If you do your problem will go away after the election.
