Keep in mind the front of the ac compressor clutch free spins until activated by turning on the ac but if it is truly siezed, then the compressor could have an internal problem which I don't think anything can be done. Also try disconnecting the connector on the compressor but I don't think that will do anything but try it. Good luck.

You can probably go to a GM dealer and get an ac delete pulley.
They're not very expensive and you will be able to drive the car until you can get the compressor replaced.
If you do that, try and find a way to seal the end of the hoses so that no contamination will get into the system....It will save you a major headache later.

No, once the belt is broke, there is no straine on the pump. Usually if the belt is loose you will hear a squeak, or squealing noise at start up, then it will sometimes go away after about 10 minutes. You can also tell if a belt is bad by looking at the inside of the belt, and you will see little cracks along the whole span of the belt, and if so replace it.

If the compressor pulley will not turn, even with the A/C off, it is probable that the bearing is shot and it will require replacement. You can try squirting a bit of WD-40 into the bearing to see if that will help.

If it's seized with the ac off, the clutch is trashed. You'll need a new one.
