...did you begin to feel engorged/tender?
My 18 month old stopped last week and although I think that she didn't get that much, I am permanently waiting for the pain to strike.
Did anyone ever stop with no pain?
Could you please share your experiences?
I want to know what kind of things I am going to feel and go through...I am already feeling sad about it and missing her younger days like crazy, I feel sad that my little girl is growing up.
Please tell me what you went through when you stopped breastfeeding so that I know I am not cracking up?
Also, how long did it take to dry up?

I know I have asked similar questions but I see new people on here all the time, I just want to get new opinions and insights.

You probably won't have any pain or engorgement. That is more a problem in early breastfeeding, by now your body is very sensitive to making only what you need, so as soon as your breasts are full a tiny bit they stop making milk and wait till there is sucking before making more milk.

My mom claims that sometimes she still has a drop or two of milk in her breasts, and she is almost 50. I have also heard from other moms of more than one breastfed baby often the have milk for years. But not enough to cause pain or discomfort.

I haven't personally stopped so I can't tell you how I felt, but what you are feeling sounds normal.

Best of Luck! And congrats on nursing until your child was done! (Though be prepared that she may change her mind she is very young to self wean)

I felt sad too. It is the hormones. My son self wean off of me in late april of this year. He was over 2 1/2 years old. The next month I found out I was pregnant again. Our baby boy is due in Late Jan. I never really hurt. But, I am looking forward to nursing again in a couple of months. I believe in self weaning.

Depends on the frequency. My 15month old, was down to 1 a day, and I didnt even notice when he stopped. Plus I had held off buying new bras, and didnt even go down a size!

there was pain for me. it was for a couple weeks because think about it. your breast have been use to having to make this milk. youve gotta give it time to dry up and stop making milk and the pain will go away...

If you weaned slowly and gently, you might not experience much engorgement.

It actually never goes away completely! There shouldn't be any pain involved.
