Hi Mike,
If you're referring to a wireless range extender for example, then the obvious advantage is that you'd cover a larger area with your signal without having to run any wiring for a 2nd access point. But the disadvantage is that the range extender is essentially a repeater which runs on the same channel and basically cuts your performance in half for every extender that you add because of the way the wireless protocols work.

To add to the Network Master, it increases your chances of being hacked because of the increased coverage area
