Does anyone know a good web site to find horse trainers in Ohio?
I need a trainer to work on my pony's attitude, it needs a serious adjustment!
He is a 15 year old shetland pony stud. I have had him since he was a baby. He has always been by himself and has always been a little hard to handle. I recently bought a quarter horse yearling filly and he has basically went off the deep end. Of course he goes nuts when I turn him out and just runs around the barn trying to get to her, so I don't leave him out long because I don't want him getting too worked up. I can't touch him because he bites, and when I say bite I mean bite. Once he gets ahold of you, he won't let go and he actually jerks his head back when he has ahold of you. He even rears up to get his head further out of the stall so he can reach you. He is just plain mean and dangerous now, but getting rid of him is not an option, because I know no one wants a pony with his issues and he would end up going to slaughter.

I realize that he should have been gelded years ago, I know that is a big part of the issue, there are other things that contribute to it too, I know why he acts the way he does. NOW, I just need to know a website of trainers so I can fix my problem.

That pony is lucky he has you for an owner. Most people would have given up already! He has a serious dominance issue, and you need to show him who is boss.
Check out this article - you may find it helpful:

As for Ohio trainers, these websites came up on my first search:
http://www.horse-talk.com/OhioTrainers.html
http://www.infohorse.com/html/ShowAd.asp?id=304

And this man isn't in Ohio - but he is one of the best trainers, and has lots of informative books and videos. If you feel comfortable trying it yourself this could be a little cheaper:

Best of luck to you.

That is a problem. I don't know much about horses but I have goats and the one that wasn't "fixed" after birth became a mean, hateful goat always trying to hurt. And stink, wow I can't describe it. We had to kill him because it was either kill or be killed. Don't know anything you can do except be really careful and keep him away from anything living. Good Luck!

Contact your vet or better yet, check with the 4 year university closest to you and see if they have an equine vet program. They may be a big help to you. Sounds like your pet could use a tranquilizer or some Prozac to help him cope!!

Good luck.

Do a google search and in the mean time get the little stud fixed. And the next time he goes to bit smack the crap out of him and every time there after, he'll quit when he learns that he'll get the stuffing knocked out of him.
