Ahhh...A Christmas Story. One of my favorite movies of all time :) There are actually 2 other stories about the same family that were made into films, but with different actors. One is "The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters", and one is called "It Runs in the Family" (there are two movies by that name - I'm talking the 1994 movie, not the 2003 one). All three of them are worth watching.

Edited to add: apparently there are several more movies I was not aware of:
These are all of the Jean Shepard films about Ralph & his family. All the PBS films are when Ralph was a teenager. All Narrated on screen by Mr. Shepard.
PBS Films:
"The Phantom of the Open Hearth" 12-23-1976 (James Broderick, Matthews Dad, as the Old Man)
"The Great American Fourth Of July and Other Disasters" 3-16-1982 (Broderick again, with Matt Dillon as Ralph)
"The Star-Crossed Romance of Josephine Cosnowski" 2-11-1983
"Ollie Hoopnoodles Haven Of Bliss" 8-6-1988 (James Sikking as the Old Man and Jerry O'Connell as Ralph)
Theatrical film were:
"A Christmas Story" was released 11-18-1983
"My Summer Story" was released as "It Runs In The Family" on 9-23-1994

The name of the movie you are wanting to know is called: A Christmas Story. It comes on every year during the Christmas season here in the USA too. It is a classic, but it is still a really awesome movie.

It's called "A Christmas Story," and actually its happening in the thirties or forties, by the way. Little Orphan Annie and the release-publicity for The Wizard of Oz pretty much date the thing.

Definitely "A Christmas Story" What a great movei. Some of the funniest lines:

"Only one thing in the world could've dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window."

"My father worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium, a master."

GREAT MOVIE! A true Christmas classic.
