Should we put so much trust in one person who can get injured on the field and off the field and destroy a season, a dynasty or better a city. Should Professional Football rules protect the quarterback more? What is the criteria that should be used to determine that QB shouldn't play? 10 concussions, appendectomy, motor cycle accident, bent fingers, throwing up and punch repeatedly in the stomach. You don't see pitchers getting beat up in baseball, then why allow it in football? (www.sportsmavericks.com)

football has produced so many great players that it would be impossible to come up with the 10 greatest players. even though stats may play a large part of what rates a player, you also have to look at what a player was working with. Sure, many will say that montana was the greatest qb ever, but at the same time you have to factor in that he was throwing to jerry rice. when you look at the stats and what a team afforded the player, you would have to agree that barry sanders put up numbers on his own without any help. his help was lacking so much that he ultimately left the game for it, as he knew that detroit was not going to deal him. so when questions like this are posed, it would make much for a much more meaningful discussion if it were geared towards a certain position. how can you pick only 10 great players, when you have triple those positions. i also did not see anyone throw ronnie lott into the mix.

First of all baseball is not a contact sport. The NFL has made great strides to protect the QB. I personally think they are protected a little too much, but in terms of making the rules more stringent? The QB is playing a game of aggression. How can you make a sack if you can's touch him. Concussions are significantly down since the NFL has changed their rules and for me f you can protect someone within reason it is a good rule.

quarterbacks, like receivers and kickers, are often left in vulnerable positions. Usually when they are throwing the ball and have their arm in the air. I understand protecting them in situations like that. But when a qb scrambles out of the pocket he should be fair game. I get so tired of roughing calls when someone touches the helmet when they tackle the qb. they are football players and have to take the same risks that all players do. should it be illegal to tackle a wr who leaps into the air to catch a pass when going across the middle just because he might get hurt? it's part of the game and they are taking it out. real shots to the head should be penalized but some of these new rules make it rediculus.

Frankly, the rules should protect the quarterback *less*.
He's a football player just like everybody else on the team, and he's a big boy. Let him take hits just like the rest of the guys.

Qb' are protected much more now than they should be. it's a freakin contact sport for god's sake. little boys growing up didn't dream of getting a 15 yard penalty call to put them in field goal range because they got hit at the wrong spot, or too hard....give me a break.
pitchers in baseball use their arm 200 + times a game if they are a starter, get line drives rocketed at them and when is the last time you saw a batter charge the center fielder????
injurys are part of any sport. the key is to be prepared for When and not If it happens.

Everyone position is football has changed. The QB position should to.
20 years ago you could be 250 play guard and make the pro bowl.
Now they have running backs bigger than that. All the position have gotten bigger and faster except for the QB position Qb's need to be faster 4.9 40 yd dash was OK was when linemen were doing it to. Now you have linemen running 4.5 40yd dash and the QB is still slow. They need to upgrade the QB position not change the rules.

Well I'm with Bradshaw, why not just put the QB in a Dress. Baseball is a whole different game. Don't try to compare the two. Should we use rotating QBs? Come on man you want BASEBALL rules.

They have been changed for the QB's. The rules do protect them better now than 10 years ago for all the reasons you mentioned. They coddle the position a little too much in my opinion, IT'S FRIGGIN' FOOTBALL !!!
