You normally only get false positive pregnancy tests if you are on certain, uncommon fertility drugs. If you were on these then your medics would know about this possibility. So if that's not the case then, yes, usually a positive hpt indicates that you are pregnant because it searches for a hormone, hcg, that is only secreted when a woman is pregnant.
However, a friend of mine thought she was pregnant and went for her routine 12 week ultrasound to find nothing there. It seems the positive hpt was being given by the fact that she had bladder stones. But this is very very rare and she was also in a lot of pain.
Either way, get yourself checked out by your doctor. They will be able to do better tests and advise you.

Hmm, I think it's very rare to get a false positive. Wait for about a week, take another test and if it comes back positive again, schedule an appointment with your doctor to have a blood test ran on your hCG hormones and see exactly what is going on! :)

It not common to get a false positive that usally happens when you are some kind of fertility drugs that contain HcG. If you want to be reassured take another test or call the doctore but I would say that you are pregnant.
Good luck and best wishes

False positives are very rare, but still possible. Take another test if it comes back positive then you are most likely PG. Make a DR apt. to confirm.

Yes it is possible to get a false reading. Get another test and recheck in two to three days, or better yet, go see the doctor to make sure.

most pregnancy tests are very accurate, but there is a chance that it is a false positive. try taking another test to get more than one answer, and if you're still not sure, try a different brand. if you're not sure after that, visit your local planned parenthood.

Possible, but not likely. Those tests are pretty acurate now. Better chances of getting a false negative.

The only way to get a false positive result is if you're on meds that contain the hCG hormone, which you'd definitely know. Start the celebration, you're pregnant. Congrats to you. If you're doubtful or would like to read up on it yourself
