The best deal I ever got in London was through the website www.priceline.com . We paid $60 US for a room that allowed 2 people. That's about 32 pounds per night. The only thing is you don't get to know what hotel you are staying in until you have already paid on your credit card. You can pick areas of the city. We were in zone 1 near Kings Cross. Also I don't think you can get your money back through Priceline if you have to cancel the trip. Cheap though!

Check out Twizi.com, they only list places that cost less than 25 dollars (and they have dozens of hostels in London) They have a cool map too.
