Men are typically uncomfortable to express any love and appreciation, so if someone else does, they will cover their own insensitivity by thinking someone else gay.

i dont know but i have never wrote another man telling him i love him, that does sound strange, a thank you note yes but not a love letter

As long as you didn't mean it as a way that you might like him, you are ok. But if you meant it in a way as in flirting of saying you like him, then that's gay.
