There are several ways.

If there's a site you want to visit, highlight it, click "Search the web for..." and it'll open Google in a new tab. Go to the new tab. Either click the link, or highlight the address shown in Google, drag and drop it in the address bar.

You can also copy and paste addresses into the address / location bar. Then hit your enter key.

There's also something you can add to Firefox that will make all text that spells out a url or e-mail turn into a usable link.

It needs two things to work:
