The text book answer to the question will be
1) Solid 2) Liquid 3) Gas

However there is a fourth form of matter known as Plasma. It is a mixture of particles (sub atomic entities, e.g. Neutron, electron, positron, etc.) and fields. This is the most abundant state of matter found in the universe. The space between all the heavenly bodies and planets is actually plasma. Ever heard or saw Northern Lights/Aurora? This is THE most beautiful scene on the planet earth and it is caused by the collision or amalgamation of Plasma with the Atmosphere and magnatic field (most powerful on poles) of earth.

Regrettably your question has a flaw, there are more than 3 states of matter. Only the first 3 occur under normal everday circumstances on earth with the fourth occuring periodically and in the sun. Solids, Liquids, then Gas are the primary 3. The 4th is Plasma.

There are still a few more states to consider. Supercritical fluids, Bose-Einstein condensates, and Fermionic clouds. This means we currently have acheived 7 states of matter.

Solids are dense and vibrate the least- therefore the speed is slowest, the distance the molecules are apart is the smallest, and it takes on a definite shape Liquids are second in speed and distance, they take on the shape of the container Gases vibrate and move the most, the distance is the greatest and they have no definite shape.
