Excellent points, Mooch. It's probably time for people to reconsider sending their kids out especially at night. I don't let my kids go out in the streets; normally we pass out candy with them dressed in their costumes.
No, not the whole world celebrates Halloween. Some continents are not even aware of such a celebration. May be it's time America canned it!

My parents cut that out when I was 6 years old. I did it for my son until he was about 8, then he got bored with it. Now I don't open the door on Halloween. I keep my house all dark. I don't like Halloween. I have read about the history of halloween but I just don't like it, I think it is dangerous, and kids are not suppose to accept candy from strangers.

I don't send children out begging for candy. I see a porch light on (A person welcoming trick or treaters) and let the kids go to their door and say trick or treat. (Where you see begging coming into play I do not know).
I think you are completely out of your mind with your comments. Why would the stores be running out of candy if people didn't want to give out candy to children? Why would people leave on their porch lights or even sit on the porch with a bowl full of candy if they didn't want children coming to their house??? Come on now. You may see it as odd or "the world has gone mad" but I see it as people enjoying the costumes that children wear and having a good time watching all the trick or treater's out and about. If you don't like it then leave the porch light off and close your door!!

When I was a kid, it wasn't so much about candy. It was more about wearing a cool costume, traipsing across the neighborhood in the dark (sometimes for miles) and the curiosity of what you'd see when doors were opened. I mean, have you been in all your neighbors' houses? If you could peek inside each one, would you like to? I guess that's why I eventually became an interior designer.
I got a good costume for you: SCROOGE. You don't have to open your door if you don't want to, jerkface. Just beware of tricks, ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!

Many churches oppose any participation with Halloween on the basis that its relationship to evil is contrary to our relationship with Christ.
The scriptures mention nothing about Halloween, but they do warn that a believer cannot mingle a relationship with God and the Devil (1 Cor. 10:21), and that we should even "Abstain from every form [appearance] of evil" (1 Thes. 5:22).

As I recollect it originated with the Druids, in that when a year evil spirits have been allowed to roam unfastened. The Druids break of day mask with the intention to maintain their id secret. Who eats the candy besides. We acquire it basically from acquaintances all of us know.

actually I am surprised with all the cynical people out there that still allow and not ban this tradition.
I would like to think that the open hearted people could still come together for the children's sake.
