That's a tricky one! If Gwen can't afford socks he/she probably can't afford shoes. Does Gwen happen to have a pair of gloves? He/she could walk on his/her hands or fit the gloves to his/her feet.

Get him down to the local jobcentreplus and get him a crisis loan so he can buy some socks. If he goes to primark to get some socks you might have enough left over to get a bottle of white lightning too, that will help keep him warm.
