norton isn't free...and it's a terrible anti-virus (it really sucks). With Kaspersky I found 27 seven virus that Norton didn't noticed... And I had both the professional versions...
According to Clubic (a french website who tested the most common free and not-free AV) the best in the free categories are :

Good info.We should do this every few days.
I concur on everthing negative that was said about Norton and IE 7. I thought Iwas the only one.
I downloaded everything recommended by microsoft windows such as the security updates. My computer just froze up and would not work.I uninstalled all of the updates and it worked fine.
Until I downloaded Flash 9 macromedia. I uninstalled it, now it works fine.
I tried acclerator plus. That was also a waste of time.
I use CCleaner and registry mechanic everyday. My anti-virus is Trend it seems to work fine.

The four best free ones I know of are:
1. AVG (grisoft.com)
2. Avast (avast.com)
3. Avira Anti-Vir (free-av.com)
and
4. BitDefender 8 (bitdefender.com)
I found a way to get the best one I know of (eset nod32) for free. Go to eset.com and download the 30day trial version. After installed go to 9down.com and find the free codes... Good luck...

AVG. Good for you, good for me.
Get the free download. They will offer to seel you an upgrade but the free version is all you need. Udpates itself regularly with new definitions and is easy to use.
I forget the website but if you run a search string on 'free avg download' it should be the first one.
