We all know it's mischief night by now. To me when the news makes a big deal about "Mischief Night" - doing a special report before anything has even happened - It makes it sounds like it is okay to vandalize, etc. with out serving any reall newsworthy purpose. What do you think?

It was annoying to find the windows of my gym shot up this morning at 5 a.m. and I don't think the news helps by legitimizing such behavior.

Especially if they are calling it mischief instead of vandalism. The news does encourage people to go out and do things like that just by reporting on it in the first place, people who do this kind of stuff want to see if they make the news. It should be considered a crime not mischief and it should not make the news because that legitimizes bad behavior, and if they are kids the parents should be held accountable.

I understand where you're coming from, but I'm not sure what you mean by "legitimizing" the behaviour? Do you mean that reporting it and calling it something makes it almost acceptable? Maybe you're right.
