time zones: the world is divided logically into 24 segments, each 15 degrees of longitude wide. Then the governments get to work on them and people actually live in zones ranging from GMT -12 in Samoa to GMT +13 in Tonga. Most countries are on whole numbers of hours + or - but some are in sundry units, the most important being India on GMT +5 1/2.

the word "weather" is usually used to mean what we experience from day to day on or near the ground in terms of sunshine, rain, snow, frost, wind, and temperature.
