The amount of money Madonna will spend on one child could have helped a whole village or town and saved hundreds of lives. Instead Madonna has chosen to line her own moral pocket.
Its so wrong.

Im surprised so many of you are being suckered into Madonnas publicity. The adoption was a stunt at worst or a cry for publicity at best IMHO.

Seems like the orphanage building was an afterthought to deflect any accusations of selfishness. I hope Madonnas motives are caring and honourable.

Oh come on. Why should she take on the responsibility for a whole village when the continent as a whole have been denied so much by the rest of the world including their own governments? So we can all stop feeling guilty that we do nothing as well? She has raised the profile of these peoples plight if anything and given that wee soul a chance of a decent (yes privileged) life. Leave her alone, she hasn't done anything wrong and by the way she has already set up a charity in Malawi. What have you done? Do you donate to charity? Pretty soon Africa will be bone dry and billions will die because of western/eastern "progress" and what we pump into the atmosphere, directly affecting the worlds climate. How exactly does someone "line their own moral pocket" by the way? That doesn't even make sense but you have revealed what bothers you most - her wealth that she has worked her a*se off for years for. Maybe if you had been a bit more determined in your life you might not be so bitter.....

I agree. The annual household income in that village/city is $600!!! Can you believe it. Her wardrobe probably is valued in the tens of millions. She could definitely spare some cash to help these people. I think she's doing a good thing by the boy, but i'm wondering if her heart is doing it for the right reasons. Angelina, I have no doubt she truly cares about impoverished people because half of her life's work is devoted to it. Madonna...not so sure.

Madonna will look after this child for the whole of his life = many many days
Why don't you look at an African child just for one day?
You know if we all people did that instead of wasting our time writing what Madonna has done and what she hasn't...
..we could have helped a whole village or town and saved hundreds of lives.
We must thank Madonna that by adopting this child she has (must have) awakened us from our greed. We are now awake and I think that we must take lesson and do our part and not just criticise others who have already done a very big part.

But she is helping the whole of the village she has adopted that child from, she promised to give so much money to the village when she adopted David, I don't agree with what she is doing by adopting that child at all, but at least the people of that village will eat for a long number of years because of her.

She's got her own motives.
There was a story on 60 minutes about the value of giving just one goat to an african village, and it sounds like a nice idea if we could help with something like that.
Also might be nice to help fund some kind of basic education, then pick a few graduates for college in America. Some great engineers coming out of Africa!

Personally I am sure that she will improve the standard of life for that child, but you have to ask yourself why she chose to do it. She seems to have done it for her own gratification and publicity, rather than for any real good. The way the child's father seems not to have been made fully aware of what is happening has made me suspicious of the whole affair. Not to mention the fact that she seems to have broken laws in the process.
The whole event seemed... odd.... to say the least. She flew in to visit, and left with a child very soon afterwards, which made it all seem fake, nothing more than a charitable and publicity-generating "shopping trip". She should have gone about it differently is what I am saying.
Then again, my own opinion is exactly that, and is probably pretty far off the mark!

Her money, her choice. Why do so many people judge what Madonna does? If she were "selfish" she wouldn't have even bothered with a child at all, but spent her money on herself only. If she's "lining her own moral pockets" at least she has morals and wants to help someone else. Stop being judgemental and get a life and do your own moral good deeds.

If she really wanted to help because she was genuine she would have financed an ongoing development for the village as a whole or donated the medicines/vaccines to help these children long term..and that ANONYMOUSLY. She wants to ' wear ' this baby for all the world to see, just as she wants to make a spectacle of herself in her shows. There is nothing caring about Madonna, I'm afraid. And just how much time will she actually spend with David? He is a trophy to her.

mmm...the whole thing is so twisted and rotten. I mean if he was an orphan that would be semi honourable. But that tiny kid has a father, and she effectively bought his son. Why could she not just support the whole family?!?!?! Back in the 19thish Century rich white ladies would buy little black babies to hang off there arms. I was really starting to think we had come further than this!!!
