Is it possible for someone to sue the person who molested them as a child 20 years ago, if it hs ruined their life? Also is it too late to press charges? It occured in Texas.

Just thought I would add, the victim was 8 at the time, the abuser was 13. Does this change things at all?

As far as criminal charges (per the Texas Statutes) the statute of limitation for the crime of ‘indecency with a child’ is 10 years from the victim’s 18th birthday…so, when the victim turns 28.

As far filing a personal lawsuit, I *believe* that has to be done no later than five years after the victim's 18th birthday.

Talk to a local attorney to verify.

Yes they can.. the statue of limitation on child molestation doesnt' expire, especially in Texas. It can still go to trial, and the person can be charged.

Not sure about the sueing part, but I would at least get it out there in court and possibly stop it from happening to someone else, you shouldve already done that, but if nothing else it will get them on the pedifile list and will post their picture.

i don't know what the statute of limitations are in Texas,,, but for all its worth you could press charges and hopefully send this a** hole to jail..... its a terrible thing these idiots d to our poor Innocent children>>> good luck
