When I was 16, I went on a birth control pill because my periods were so irregular and severe. Now, my husband and I have decided to start a family, so I went off of my birth control pill that I had been on for 14 years. I went off the pill two months ago and still have not had a period. Should I be concerned about not being able to conceive?

If you are really concerned then you should go talk to your doctor about it. There probally isn't a problem you have just been on the birth control so long that it is going to take time for your body to adjust. I don't have a period every month, and i have never been on birth control so you really never know.

But my only advice is to go speak with your doctor....you never know if something might be wrong.

Best wishes

I was on the pill for 17 years before ttc. When you go off the pill, your body goes back to it's natural state. If your periods were irregular before going on the pill, chances are they still are. Your best chance for conception is usually the first month off the pill. Are you sure that you aren't pregnant?

My advice would be to make an appointment with your OBGYN. If you aren't pregnant, then you may be able to take Prometrium (progesterone) to bring on your period. My periods were normal for a couple of months after going off the pill, then I didn't get one. My OB put me on the Prometrium to start my period and then had me take Clomid on days 3-5 of my cycle to help me ovulate. I conceived that month. Unfortunately, I miscarried. However, 9 months later, I did conceive again. I have a healthy 16 month old daughter and I'm in my 6th month ttc again.

Although 2 months isn't long when ttc, I don't believe you should wait a year before seeking professional help. Many fertility problems can be diagnosed and treated by an OBGYN. If your problems are more complicated, then you will be referred to a fertility specialist. It's better to make sure there are no medical problems interfering with conception before going through the constant depression not conceiving month after month for a year and then finally going to the doctor.

Best of luck to you!

No, you were on birth control pills for a long time. My sister-in-law was on bc for about six years and it still took her over a year for her cycle to be straightened out and to become pregnant. Relax, if you aren't pregnant within a year see your doctor. If you are truly worried about it now you might want to make an appointment just to calm your nerves. Good Luck and when you do become pregnant, Congratulations!

Have you had a pre-conception visit with your Ob-Gyn?

That is the first step in a healthy conception. Explain to him/her where you're at in the process and what's going on.

You should be taking prenatal vitamins now and your OB will be able to answer questions related to how soon your period should return.

Most importantly, RELAX. A lot of infertility is caused by stress. Healthy mind = healthy body.

I had similar problems getting pregnant and was told there was nothing wrong with me.After trying and getting nowhere i had my husband checked and we found out he had low sperm count and inactive sperm which corrected itself i guess because we ended up have 2 normal children (they are 20 and 17 ). Go see your doctor he can help you the most.

I wouldn't be worried. It takes some time for your body to get leveled out. Give it some time. If you don't get pregnant after one year, then you might want to think about fertility treatments.
