Because in pure Socialism it does not matter how hard or how well you work, you get what you need and maybe some of what you want. Your neighbor gets the same and he can be a slacker, With Capitalism, you reap more of what YOU sow. Sure a slacker or two slips their way around the system but by and large, those that work the hardest and the smartest get more of what they need and want. This provides further inspiration for people to improve on themselves, or products, innovations, etc. Socialism provides no inspiration at all to do any more than anyone else.
