The magnet put a lasting magnetic field on the face of the picture tube. It can be removed with a degousing coil. (Wires wound in a circle and powered by a/c). Turn it on and wave it around the screen. Don't leave it on too long, it will get hot.

There may be one built into the monitor, just cycle it on and off a few times.

The easiest way to degauss the monitor is to tape a magnet to an electric whisk and with the magnet spinning, move it around the problem area, gradually move it away. (a moving magnetic field)

Any residual problem will gradually go away as CRT monitors degauss when they are switched on. There may also be a degauss button on the monitor which you can try a few times. (however, you need to start with the whisk to get rid of the worst damage first)

The magnet screwed up your monitor.
