What is the difference between the declaration of independence and the american constitution?

The Declaration of Independence declared to Britain that they no longer had power over us. The Constitution shaped the way we would function as a country. Let's get back to paying attention to it, shall we?

I want a small government: small enough to fit inside the Constitution.

The Declaration was just what it sounds like - a declaration to Britain that the colonies were free from Britain. The Constitution was the basis of laws for the U.S., and shaped the country as it is today.
