A house payment should be about 1/4 of your take home pay. In this case about $500/month. Anymore than that and you will be stuggling just to keep the house. Can you get a house for that? Depends on where u live and the local housing market.

Its tough out there. One thing to keep in mind is all the extra stuff that can crop up that really doesn't when you are renting. If all of a sudden the heat craps out, you have to spend the money to replace it. Its a big responsibility. I make a decent salary, but I'm in a high dollar area so I decided to rent for a year and then re-evaluate. You may want to do the same unless you have found a wonderful deal that you can't pass up.

You could look for a house that is a rent to own type of deal. That means you start out renting if you like it you can then apply to buy the house. Check a realtor, but that is not enough money for house payments and all the gas, water, electric and other bills. IMHO

house mite be a 4 bed room 3 bath and all the extras but if you managed you money you can get a nice 1-2 bedroom 1 bath place but it mite not be a good neighborhood.
