Let's put it this way; your chances of getting shot are much higher if you visit Washington, DC or South Africa...

People do get hurt, but this often happens in drinking brawls. Don't drink with strangers, and you should be okay.

Black people are not common in Russia, but they are not unheard of, either. There are quite a few of students and diplomats from different African countries in Moscow; there are also a few Black Americans and Europeans.

Speaking the language will help immensely, as Russians tend to have a soft spot for foreigners willing to learn about their country. Having local friends will help even more.

Only if you do something stupid. Russia has its sketchy areas like any other country, but if you keep your nose clean and use reasonable care, you're no more likely to be shot in Russia than anywhere else.

The racial tensions in Russia have a lot more to do with inter-Asian ethnicities than with blacks. There isn't much of a history there, as Russia never had much activity in Africa and has very few black residents. You'd be at significantly more risk if you were Jewish or, say, Georgian, than black.

I doubt that you will get shot, but you would definitely be frowned upon by common Russians. The possibility of you being beaten up does not matter on the size of the city - in fact, it is more likely that you shall be attacked in Moscow or in St. Petersburg because of your race than in any kind of a small town. In small towns, they shall probably assault and rob you just because of your money, not because of your race.

All in all, Russians are currently trying to get rid of Asians from the nearby (mostly ex-Soviet, though China is also a problem) states, as well as from their own colonies in Asia. While one seemingly respectable man such as yourself is a drop in the sea, it shall nonetheless be better if the country (at least the ancient Russian lands in Europe) remains purely white. You should be merciful and stay out of their state until they sort out their affairs.

Well, there are some areas in Russia, you better don't visit, but you will feel save in major citys like Moskow or St. Petersburg.

You will be a celebrity there. There are so few black people there that they will probably want to walk up and feel your skin and hair. Plus once you open your mouth and start speaking Russian their jaws will drop. Don't worry...just don't do anything to get them mad....and don't stay out late alone. The bad Russians will obviously know you are a visitor.

Several black people have been abused/beaten up and even killed in recent years in Russia. There are hotspots I would be careful of (regardless of race or skin colour) including suburbs of Petersburg and the town of Voronezh

No, you wouldn't, there are a lot of black people living in Russia, but if you do anything stupid or show disrespect to Russia you may be in trouble

I was in Russia a few years ago. When I was there I was with a few different ethnicities and we had no problems. The only thing that they were unfriendly about towards us was the fact that we were from the U.S.

I wouldn't go as far as to say shot, but you might get beat up a couple times.
