I mean, HELLO, gunpowder - I love fireworks, but think they should be display only....not on sale where morons buy them and let them off at two o'clock in the morning

You are absolutely right... some of the illegal (but still obtainable) Chinese 'bomb' bangers are precisely that - mini bombs. A person intent on doing harm could easily use the powder contents of such fireworks to make a lethal weapon.
Your point about fireworks being let off at 2AM is a very valid one... the law is there to be used, but no police are available to take action, so it is a pointless piece of legislation.
I feel sorry for pets, ill and elderly people, when fireworks are let off for days before and after the 5th. One day legislation might be enacted so that fireworks are confined to licensed public displays. Or perhaps the government will bar them under the new carbon emission rules!!

PS I've just seen STEVES's remark... when I was a child the Standard Firework company made a banger called The Cannon. We used to put them inside milk and similarly shaped bottles and when this enormously powerful banger went off, the bottle shattered and glass went everywhere (I hasten to add we did this on an old 'rubbish dump' of a nearby factory). Imagine what a person could do with the equivalent of several 'Cannons'. So the concept of using the contents of several of the currently available larger fireworks for harmful purposes is not so stupid, is it? !

Fire works are dangerous, and should not be on sale to private individuals. They should be allowed at official licenced displays only. But only because they are dangerous, not because a few slimy un-balanced people commit acts of terrorism, I`m dammed if they will stop us doing something which has been a tradition with the Brits since 1665, they should have learned by now we are not easily frightened or provoked.

Definitely, definitely, definitely! I couldn't agree with you more.

Fireworks should be used at organised displays only, and there should only be a few days a year they can be set off, Nov 5th, Dec 31st, Chinese New Year, etc.

People need to be more considerate when setting off fireworks: a friend of mine had to have her horse put down about 5 years ago after he broke through his stable door in a panic and shattered his leg, after some idiots decided to hold a massive display in their back garden next door. Ever since she has spent every Nov 5th camping out at the stables to make sure it doesn't happen to her new horse.

So are you complaining about yobs or a terrorist threat?

If its terrorists you are worrying about, you may not be aware but bomb making equipment can be as simple as fertliser, soap (a la Fight Club), household chemicals and so on. Fireworks are probably the least effective of any threat when it comes to explosivies due to the problems of storage, volume and so on. Its really not a threat, and the amount in fireworks is negligable anyway to do any real damage except make noise and scare your pets.

As for Yobs, if they werent letting off fireworks theyd be graffiting a park bench, smashing up a phone box or picking a fight for no reason while they sit in train stations drinking white lightning. I think the problem can be traced back further then the fireworks.

I hope I dont come across as patronsing, but I think you are way off on this one.

Before any terrorists where on our radar stupid people have been setting off fireworks at 2 o'clock in the morning for years.

Fireworks are dangerous and in my opinion should be banned because the injure people....not because of terrorists.

Could not agree with you more, fireworks are dangerous
and, if allowed, it should be only for qualified experts who
are licenced to purchase and use, and even so, on special
events which also must have a permit for their use after
a project is approved by a competent official authority.

I think that anyone caught firing them at 2 o' clock in the morning should be locked in a cell with load horrible death metal balsted in everytime they drop off to sleep

for the rest of eternity...

and then someone should shove a banger up their arses.

But as for the age of terrorism and all that... no.. stupid idea.

Bloody Norah, I think your right buddy - Ive got a mate who spends hundreds on them and theres nothing he likes better than annoying people at night frightening everyones animals and just being a general clown. Its ok at on organised bonfire night but theres a lot of people who abuse it - look what happened to Guy Fawkes!
