do you have to be artistic to do this job? i would like to do this but have no real artistic talent, is it something you can learn???

I'm a graphic designer, i hate it! i was very artistic... i loved to paint! my brain is numbed my this stupid computer! being artistic is indeed a great help, you need a huge deal of ideas! but there is a lot of learning involved too! and computer skills, i have worked with people who were fantastic artists who just couldn't use their artistic ability to create a graphic design piece like a brochure or poster!... where as other people very technically minded fantastic computer ability couldn't come up with any creative ideas!.. so a mix of both is ideal! i just hate it because its boring hence I'm on yahoo answers all day! he he.. but good luck in what you choose to do!

You can learn the design ability, there are design rules of how to make something look pleasing to the eye, but mind the fact that without any artistic talent, you may probably amount to no more than a Mac Operator sorting out or working on design projects that other people thought of. If you can live with that and that appeals to you then you need to get yourself some Apple Mac knowledge on the standard packages ie Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop etc. I personally have been a Designer and Mac Operator for over 20 years. The money can be good, and some places work shift system nights and day, but no mega bucks, believe me. Good Luck

You do need some sort of artistic flair. I work in design at the moment and the core part of my job is to create glossy documents, eyecatching covers, booklets etc so you do need a good imagination and eye for detail. To get into this line of work you would need a college/uni qualification, some employers also like to see a portfolio of your work or example of what you can do. Graphic design courses are very broad based, you cover everything from life drawing to type setting so for someone with no real artistic talent you may find it hard going. Even though alot of the work is computer based you still need an artistic led imagination to come up with the ideas.

Almost all graphics are produced by computer, yes you can learn how to design with no artistic ability's and its fun, like the yellow pages ads are all done by graphic artist computer generated, good luck

you don't need to be born artistic to be a graphic designer. but you must have creativity and imagination. the former is most important. thou', if you have artistic background then, that is obviously a positive sign.

You can learn techniques but you need to have the gift... if you want you need to dicover it, probably it is there in your brain, and you need to go there and take it out... try it... go for it...
