I once went in a restaurant that had a smoking section equipped with a ventilation system. In the non smoking section they had lots of seats - lots and lots of tables free for the taking - even window seats.
This middle aged couple came in - and of all tables they sit in the smoking section at a table right next to mine. They immediately started fussing with me about my inconsiderate behavior smoking virtually right in their faces (which I never blow smoke at anyone).
Long story made short - they called the Manager and the manager made me leave for being a trouble maker by upsetting those two lovely people.
I too try not to smoke in such a situation that puts Non Smokers in my fumery. So now - I wonder who is less truly considerate of others.
You might notice Alcohol is not on the table for eradication from public use. Despite the innumerable deaths it has caused (drunken people battering wives and others, drunk driving, deaths because one came to work drunk, etc, deaths of children because of a drunken negligent parent) and we wont even cover the deaths caused by health related problems (pickled livers, etc)
I am all for making laws to force inconsiderate Smokers to be respectful of Non Smokers - BUT - I see the American right to choice being stripped away by those with an agenda - those same people who really, really enjoy their beer, wine and Jack Daniels.

She sounds like she has a lot aggression. You seem to be a very considerate person and didn't deserve that lack of respect from that nut case. She is going to run into the wrong person one day who will wipe the street with her. As for the smoking addiction try to get help and give your lungs a break. I stopped smoking 4 years ago after smoking for 46 years, cold turkey. Now when I see people smoking they look so silly, but I used to be one of them. I smoked 2 packs a day. I don't miss the morning coughing and the crap I use to spit up. Ugh!!! Oh, and my truck, my home & my clothes don't stink anymore. Good luck.

She's just one of those smoke Nazi's that want all smokers locked away forever. I bet that lady's folks were 5 pack a day-ers that blew smoke in her face all day growing up. People like that are just really sad with no respect. You were the considerate one.
And all the whiners that say "Just quit and you won't have that problem." - Go skrew urselves.

You have every right to smoke, as long as you are not in the company or vicinity of non-smokers, pregnant women, or children.
...Since you were only smoking near your own car, and not in anyone's vicinity, NOBODY could have had any grounds to blame you !
But some busybodies feel a real 'high' - at being 'holier than thou', when they thus criticize others - and will indulge in their fetish, even without any rhyme, or reason !
Oh Lord, forgive them, for they know not what they do !
:-))

I don't think people like her are in the majority. It's a free country and you should be able to smoke if you wish. By the same token if someone doesn't want to smell like smoke, they shouldn't have to. There are methods to accopmlish this, and as longs as they are practiced, people should be satisfied. Someone on a personal crusade often goes over the top like that. Just ignore them.

Wowsers... what should I think? Sounds like she needs an anger management course of some sort... Seriously though, more than just a bit over board with her reaction. Does she chase down every smoker she passes by?
Kudos to you for trying to be so considerate of others with your smoking habits!

i see your point, but that isn't going to change anything either..people are who they are...but i wouldn't make a big deal out of it either...you have the right to smoke anywhere you want...i smoked for 5 years...just quit last fiday...it's not easy...i'm doing the patch and it is helping, i just keep telling myself "you done!" i want to have children soon and don't want to be smoking around my kids...or even smelling like it around them...my bf quit about 2 months ago and i kinda felt disconnected with him..because now it was only me smoking after a meal, after a few beers, after making love...and i would rather be connected to him in any way i possibly can be...anyway- good luck hun!:)

Poor B****. I smoke too and I enjoy puffing my money into nothing. Why don't they address foul language in public, nakedness, sewerage water running in the streets, car polution. Isn't it all the same. Maybe she is just jealous because she doesn't have the b***s to smoke herself...
