I have a question for you.....Are you against or for circumcision, or are you simply curious as to the origin of the tradition by the Jewish people? If you check out the site I have used as a reference, I think you might find the answer as to why the Jewish circumcised their males.
Best of Luck!

I guess it's a religeous thing. But alot of people who aren't jewish do it. Lately there has been a rise in leaving the skin on. Some doctors advise not doing it, they find that it desensitizes the penis and will ruin the sex drive as they get older. As far as the diseases go, yes we are more likely to get diseases, but everyone is at risk not just uncicumcised people. And with modern hygiene it's very easy to keep it clean. I am not circumcised and I've never had a problem.

In the Old Testament, God told the Jews that they must circumsize each male before they are eight days old.

Abraham made a deal with God.
GOD: "You folks mutilate your sons and I will give you this land that belongs to other people, plus I'll throw in a few extra benefits."
Abraham: "Okay sounds good to me."

Pretty much every race of people circumcise their males. And it's best to do it when the baby is first born. Because once men become grown, they will not take the time to do it because they use the excuse about it being to painful. But it is somewhat of a health hazard because men whom are circumcise are more likely to catch diseases then men who are. Plus it looks like an ant eater! LOL!

It's not just the Jewish people. Most people have boys circumsized for the health and hygiene reasons. The Jewish people have a ceremony for it though and others don't.
