I want to give my husband a surprise 50th birthday party in the fellowship hall of our church. There is limited seating area and so I want to tell people not to bring their children. How should I go about doing this without stepping on toes? There's simple not enough room for all the adults and their children. (not to mention they are a distraction) I do not want to have to plan [seating, food, and intertainment] for a bunch of kids.
What should I do?

just tell them the truth. a 50th party may not be for kids anyway. but tell the people there is not enough room , or, tell them adults only. i would imagin they would get a baby sitter for this function as they do for other parties????

Just say adults only on the inventations. Its simple plus it gives the parents a chance to get out without their kids and have an excuse. If they can't make it due to child care. Give them advice on a babysitter.

I would say write on the invitation that the party is only for adults, due to limited space.

maybe if you have alot of people that will have children and you think that your hubby wants them there you should reconsider a diff. place to have the party...but if there is not alot of children just ask them to keep up with them or you could even let them sit on the floor..just ask them nicley and if they seen offended athen tell them your situation and make sure they know that its nothing personal

on the invitations say no children please, or no children under a certain age, or say somerthing like although we love your children this is an adult only party. All my cousins did it for their wedding, it's not offensive, people understand that sometimes children are not allowed.

No matter how nicely you go about it, there will always be someone who is offended. If you are giving out invitations, just write "Adults Only', so hopefully they get the hint.

do the invites with the name of your husbands friend plus one so they know they can only bring one person and if anyone asks you to your face you can tell them the truth about the size of the venue

test the waters...explain it to a few and get some feedback.
maybe some older kids (yours or your grandkids) could watch the other kids and have activities for them away from the adults)

this will not be rude at all. Many people ask that when they want to party without kids.
