What happened to the good old days of door to door with your pillowsack and a cute costume? I've been told that if you're going to have your kids trick-or-treat, it should only be to houses of people you know, and that the parents should go through the candy right away when they get home to check for anything suspicious. Paranoia! Well society IS filled with some pretty messed up people creeps. What's your opinion? Few homes of those you know, or a full pillow case with stranger candy?

stranger candy. not only all the stuff you said, but the time restraints you see put on kids to trick or treat is getting ridiculous. My friends and I were out until 10 every halloween whe we were young and even then we felt cheated for time to go collect candy, but now the "neighborhood" where I am at is trying to limit kids trick or treating till 8. Whats up with that? how are they supposed to set respectable records for candy collected? Mine from when I was a kid was close to 20 lbs.

If you only trick-or-treated at people's houses that you knew than you'd never get much candy, and nobody would be giving away very much candy. Part of the fun is handing out candy to neighbor's you haven't met before. Also I have never been given a piece of "bad" candy in all the years I've went trick-or-treating. I believe you're just being paranoid. Obviously I will take my kids since they are very small, but I think that it's reasonable to allow kids 10 and up to go around their neighborhood with a group of friends.

Personally, I think that most people are just over paranoid.

We go trick or treating in our neighborhood and we do not let the kids eat anything until it has been inspected.

Likewise, if you are in a good neighborhood, chances are that nothing funky will happen.

That Halloween BS derives from when I was a little kid in the seventies and some hippies thought it was funny to put some blotter acid in the candy while some freaks that watched too many Jason movies thought it was funny to put needles and crap in the candy bars.

Go out and have fun! Just check the candy for open wrappers!!!

If you only go to house you know... how many treats will most kids get ? A handful ?

I always accompany my kids trick or treating. Every year we get something inappropriate or questionable.

Most time it's something harmless.... A pop can or juice box with a small hole punch in it for a slow leak ... makes a mess of the candy.

A couple of times, there was pin holes in chocolate bars... I don't know if it was harmless or not, but I wasn't taking the chance.

I will only accept home made treats from people we know and throw out anything in question.

Why take chances ?

My kids are only 3 and 7 ... I want them to enjoy Halloween.

i used to go to every house in the neighborhood then my parents would check the candy twice. the worst thing they ever found were some lolypops with banged up wrapping and stale candy corn. if the kids stays in an area they know, then its fine! people need to be at least a little trusting of others.

If I had kids, I would take them trick-or-treating. They wouldn't go by themselves. But we'd go all over and get all kinds of candy. And I would check the candy. And throw away anything that looked suspcious.

Well i normally take my brother and sisters to a really nice neighborhood were all the Higher society people live, because you have less of a chance of getting tainted candy, vs. going to the ghetto xD
BUT we still check everything....just in case.

Isn't it crazy what our society has come to where you have to check your child's candy to make sure that no one has put something harmful in it....-__- its really sad that they have ruined such a awesome holiday.

All depend on your neighborhood. If you trust your neighbors, then who cares?

But if you're living next to the Wal-mart next to the river....
