therapists use behavioral therapy for conditions like anorexia, social anxiety disorders, people who cut themselves and so on..its therapy to help them learn to modify and change the behavior that is in question

As Behavioral therapy ignores introspection (looking inside the mind), and concentrates on modifying external behaviour only, I would think it's best for "smaller" problems that don't seem to have any deep-rooted, overly complicated reason behind them, like smoking etc. Or things that are habits that just need breaking.

Things like eating disorders, OCD, or more serious mental disorders tend to have a much deeper source that Behavioural therapy would not look to alter. It would be like giving someone with a brain tumour headache tablets; outward behaviour is only one symptom.

Since I recenty learned tha cognitive behavioral therapy is the preferred treatment plan nowadays, my guess would be that it is most useful for a speedier recovery from mental health problems.

I hope this is not too simplistic
