Assuming it is Windows XP, click the START button, go to SETTINGS, and click on USER ACCOUNTS when the window pops up. In there you should be able to set the log-on passwords etc. for any account on your computer. Good luck.

Just go into Start, Control Panel. Choose "User accounts" and then "create a new account". That'll ask you for the name of the account and if you want to put a password to it or not. Once that's done, no one will be able to use the laptop unless you type in the password first.
I know it isn't part of the question... but shouldn't you also have a chat with your bf? He needs to trust you, otherwise your relationship won't work. Talk things thorugh with him, and find out why he feels he has to check up on you... maybe you can sort things out that way instead of having to put passwords everywhere! Good luck.

wow ... wat a sentence framing..!!
Well I guess a simple account creation and password won do much good.. u hav to go to Safe mode that is.. press F8 while the Windows Logo appears after the booting seq of the Windows.. select Safe mode.. the Adminstrator account will appear, mostly the password wont be set there.. u get in and go to the Control Panel and under the ->Users secton, set ur password for the Administrator... and also make another user account and its password as well.. dat will do..
reboot normally and the account u created will appear..
but hey dear.. if its frm ur BF dat u gonna restrict ur laptop.. then hey guys hav the right to know his GF's PC's password atleast.. and u hav to give..!!
well better try to use some s/w's like Foldergaurd, FakeFolder or any s/w dat can hide folders and restrict the access.. in this way both u and ur nosy BF is happy.. !!!! after all wats there to hide so much..!! ;-)

Go to you start menu, then to User accounts. Once you are there start an account. Mine is computer administrator. Type in the info you want and save it. This way when you start your computer, you will be asked for your password.
There is also something called guest acount. I have that turned OFF so that I know that no one else is using my computer.
Also it is a good thing to change your password occasionally and don't make it too easy for someone to guess.
Take care and Happy Halloween :)

As an addition to the account password, have you thought about creating a locked/encrypted file where you can simply store your more personal files/folders to REALLY keep the prying nose out??
Gimme a hoy if you need help, as I know just the program for THAT job :)
Oh as an extra, did you realise most laptops have the facility to use a power-on password as well as the user account password??

It's one of the items in the control panel. Also, when you throw things in the trash, delete them after. And your instant messages stay on your computer.
