A wise woman (my mother, as it turns out) once told me there are three types of people in the world: The Stupid, The Smart, and The Wise. All three of them make mistakes, but the stupid never ask what went wrong, and so continue to make the same mistakes over and over.

The smart and the wise ask themselves what went wrong, and so they learn from their mistakes, move on, and continue to grow. But the wise do one thing more that the smart don't do. They look at the mistakes made by the stupid and the smart and ask what they can learn from THOSE mistakes, and thus the wise grow three times more.

And anytime you can learn a valuable lesson without having to take a hit -- THAT's "wise." So I'm willing to learn from anyone's mistakes.

(Mother knows best).

Call me arrogant (and I'm well aware that I am, thanks...and I'm proud of it) but NOBODY can tell me what to do...not my family, my girlfriend, my boss (well, I suppose I really am my own boss; I run my shift my way), nobody! And I've always been that way, and everybody knows it...I can't remember the last time anybody actually succeeded. I mean, you can TRY, but you know I'm going to do whatever the f--k I want anyway...and it's not that I always think I'm right (though 90% of the time I AM) or know what's best, it's just that I've always been independent enough that I do what I want.

yes and no.....I believe it depends on what it is you are learning..sometimes guidance from an outside source can do wonders from a learning standpoint. It becomes a problem when the other person bails you out of your mistake..There is a fine line with interfering with the learning process and guiding them in the right direction to learn .....there are something better learned on your own and something are better with guidence....

well yes i do hate when the others are trying to talk me out of something i wanna do, but in the same time I'm doing the same thing to my sis because I'm over protecting her, i know is wrong but it hurts when shes coming to me and say that i was right and she was wrong and it hurts when someone dear doesn't take in consideration a good advice, is true most of the things should be learned by yourself but it wouldn't harm to listen from time to time.

Exactly right. No one should try to live vicariously through others and try to never make mistakes, thats how we learn. The lesson is much stronger if you experience it yourself than if someone just tells you about it.

I do dislike that immensely. I realize you have to be told what to do in life but the ones who think they know everything about me and how I should "run" my life bug me the most. I have a friend who, if we go shopping and I am looking at something I like will say, "You don't need that." I don't shop with her much anymore.

If I know what I'm doing, it irritates the shmit outta me when they try to tell me what to do. If I don't know what I'm doing, and I ask for help, that's fine. What really gets me, is somebody giving me unasked for advice, then getting pissed off because I don't heed their advice.
