Make sure your site title contains the keywords you have listed. Try to have these keywords in your first paragraph of text on your website. They must make sense and flow with the information. If you're just typing words over and over, you will not get a higher rating. In fact, it could force you down the list. It all has to be relevent.

It also helps if your domain name is descriptive of what you do.

One other thing, would be to be focused. I do real estate investing in Asheville, NC. I have my site set up so it says in the keywords and the site title "real estate investing asheville". I come up in the top 10 on both. Had I just put "Real estate investing" without the narrower focus, who knows where I'd be.

If you want to sell products to the whole country, you may have to try link exchanges and such in order to get ranked higher.

Also, a number one listing is not necessarily a good thing. Studies show that many people avoid the number one hit and actually the 2nd or 3rd listing gets the most click throughs....who says people don't support the underdog...

Hope that helps.

If you would like help, please do not hesitate to contact me. My rates are very reasonable.

Page Rank is the Key. imporve your page rank and you'll get higher in the listings.

A few ways to improve your page rank is:

Include the search term in the body of your content.
Ask friends with a good google pagerank to link to your site.
Make the content interesting and relivant.
Update your site regulary
Enrol in the google site map program
Enrol in the google Adwords Program
Submit your site to google and yahoo.

It's simple and takes time, but its possible and unlike some of the commontators it can be done for free. See http://www.ihaveawebsite-nowwhat.co.uk/ if you don't belive me.

You will have to pay these sites for it. But if the words are not common, like your name, then you can repeat your name thousand times on your web site, and it may come first in search.

Sponsored sites get the highest priority (meaning that you pay for your placement).

Other than that, make thorough use of meta tags, don't use frames in your webpage construction, and use more text than images (search engines can't "crawl" frames or images).

I believe it helps if you have lots of links to your site from other peoples.
No good linking to yourself within your own site though.
Oh, and money!
