U don't say where u trying to rid mold at or on? Assuming u fixed the leak and it's a cabinet or wall... I use Kiltz. Which is design for mildew, smoke, and water damage... there are lots of equally good brands. But if the mold your getting ready to handle is fungi, fuzzy BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL, you do not want those spores floating in the air and you inhale them. MOLD CAN KILL.

If the area is small I use Tilex, Clorox Clean up and have plenty of ventalation and allow it to completely dry. If the mold is on wood do not use the above as it will strip the wood finish & color. Try some Murphy's wood soap on paneling.

U might consider providing us more details to really give better answers. Good luck and be careful.

You may find that they pay for everything which was damaged, but it is also possible that they could pay nothing - every home insurance policy is intended to cover sudden and unforeseen incidents such as a fire, flood or burst pipe, and has an exclusion for gradual deterioration and wear & tear. It all depends, as they could say that you have known there was a problem for over a year but did not have it checked out and the leak traced until now, therefore you have allowed things to gradually deteriorate. If you can prove that you have had plumbers or builders out to check it and they failed to find the cause, you may be lucky and have it all paid for. If the claim is acceptedd, you may not be covered for the plumbers bill, as policies normally cover the damage caused by the leaking water but not the maintenance costs of repairing the leaking pipe.

Use a solution of half bleach and half water to clean up the mold. After that dries, use Kilz brand paint on the drywall area.

Fix the leak then replace what ever has been damaged as there is no way of getting rid of the smell unless you replace it.
