I hate Halloween but now that my son is of the age to want to go trick or treating with his friends I have had to compromise. I always buy a multi bag of little sweets that I dish out to the little ones who call round. They usually take the time and trouble (with mums help of course) to make their costumes really cute. When the sweets are gone I dont answer the door any more. The later callers are usually older kids who are a bit intimidating anyway. I havent had any bad experiances for not opening the door...yet. ask me again tommorow!

From my point of view this whoel trick or treat thing is more abot young kids getting dressed up and having fun. My eldest is 11 and I would say this is the last year she will be going as far as I am concerned. My 4 year old and the 8 month old will still do it with me though.
There's no law to say you have to answer the door at Halloween. Round my way I take my kids to houses that have halloween decorations outside and the local paper has a pull out so people who don't want callers can put a poster up in their window saying they don't want trick or treaters. It seems to work well. Also if anyone tried to give my kids money and not some sort of sweet I'd be pretty upset with them for giving it and my kids for accepting it.
As for parents escorting their kids asking for money.. that's a bit cheeky really and the parents need to wait for their dole cheque like all the other chavs.
Any teenagers coming round mine after 9 will be told to get lost or given the crappy coffee chocolates I bought especially for them. Some little buggers stole my kids pumkpin last year! Took me ages to carve it as well.

My family (many years and generations) just have never liked the blackmail aspect (give me something or we'll trick you). We were good to the local kids year round but resented a pagan holiday being thrust down our throat.
So as young boys, we brewed up a rotten mess of old eggs and whatever else smelled foul in a tub and filled balloons with the concoction. Climbing onto the porch roof we waited. After dad gave them a treat, we would wait for the door to close (didn't want him knowing) and then would bomb the group with the smelly balloons. It was a hilarious night. We did that 2 years and there has never been a trick or treater back to that house in 40 years!! Quite a legend was made on that roof!!! We knew who was in the costumes from the smell at school for the following week!!!

I dread tonight not that im bothered about the little ones with the parents its just im back from work late and the dog will be hysterical by the time I get in.Id love to put a note on the gate but that will just advertise Im not there.Years ago when my children were teenagers I had one lad kept telling me all week how he was going to trick me even if I had anything for him ,about 16 he was.So me and the kids waited by the window upstairs armed with a jug of water ,yep in he came ,banged at the door laughing with his mates by the gate, egg in hand .He left wet with all his friends laughing ,next day he was round for his normal lunch break from school with my son, didn,t say a lot ,ha ha but held no grudge.I didn,t let my kids go as I think its very unfair on the elderly people.Ok when its the tots and mums or dads with them and going to neighbours they know.

My husband is working this evening and I shall be here on my own. There is no way I am answering the door tonight. I never answer it after dark anyway so why should tonight be any different? In the past I have had rude expletives written in lipstick on the glass door. I doubt if you will have anything done if you are a hotel, especially if the kids are accompanied by their parents.

Trick or treaters should be banned, I had 2 yobbos knocking last year with plastic masks on asking for a treat, I told them to **** off. Its ok if young children dress up, but Im even against that as its begging in some respects. I feel sorry for old people on their own who get these callers. Tonight my lights will be out at the front of the house, I cant be doing with it.

If they are with parents nothing SHOULD happen. I dont answer the door either - Ive got 2 HUGE german shepherds and if I open the door to find kids dressed in masks my dogs would freak so for the kids safety I shove a note on the door (not that they read it - they still knock !!) xx

If any little bstards egg my house, brake any windows or key my car I will kill them.
It's not the ones who come round with their parents that you need to worry about, it's the teenagers who are really too old who are only interested in cash that cause problems.

I worked for hilton for 7 years, never had a problem there.
I am taking kids trick or treating, but we are only going to those with whom I have asked first. We dont go to strangers houses.
