It depends what your use is.

If it is just for online viewing -
use JPEG (Joint Photographers Experts Group)
as this will save much on your space at the same time give you a good quality picture online. It is good coz the file size will be very small and it is convenient for file sharing as well.

If it is for printing -
use TIFF (Tagged Image File Format)
as this will keep all the important colour info so that it comes out perfect if it is being printed or colour separated. This file size will be quite big. Sometimes as big as a few hundred megabytes.

other than this two formats, there are a lot of formats such as EPS, BMP., PCX., PICT., PXR., PNG., and more where each formats has got its own characteristics and this formats are not as important for general use.

jpg the pictures will have the same side but wont take so much space and u will can send them easy on yahoo mesenger to :)

Resolution wise - .avr, .amr, .tiff, .psd

Best for windos and ever green as . bmp

Best for Web id .kdk and jpg
