Some sort of folk theatres is enacted in traditional ways in India. They used to start such dramas late in the evening and it will go whole night and end next day early morning. It is enacted mostly in the paddy fields or open grounds or street cornors after harvest in south and called Therukkuthu in Tamil Nadu. Similarly in Bengal region in the winter time it is enacted similarly in the name of Jatra. They take mythological stories such as Harishchandra, Nala Damayanthi, Ramakrishna etc., for this Terukkuthu or Jatra. they feature loud music, harsh lighting and dramatic props played on giant outdoor stages. Jatras are often very melodramatic with stylised delivery and exaggerated gestures and orations.
